Monday, December 8, 2008, is 12 Cimi (Death). Returning to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, we find Jack in the darkness of night, mulling over his actions of the day. The opportunity presented itself, and he was only trying to do something that would benefit himself and his mother. His heart was open in the act of service.
On this day we take the questioning of Akbal that we found three days ago. Can our thoughts of tomorrow affect the outcome, or have the dice already been thrown? When we open our hand to see the outcome do we find riches, or great bounty? No, we find seeds. What does this mean?
We stand at yet another crossroad, examining the outcome by measuring it against ourselves. Is not the value of the beans measured by our beliefs? In addition we measure the importance of those gifts by one or more levels within our lives: our present time physical need, emotional need, willfulness, purpose, and the list goes on.
Cimi gives us the opportunity to review our thoughts and actions, learning from our experiences. We must accept that there will be misinterpretations and things we outgrow along the way. The old must give way at some point, when it no longer serves us.
When we seek to learn, what good does it do us to close our mind to new possibilities? Sometimes we need to stop thinking about it, and have a little faith and trust in our hearts and our higher power.
Tomorrow we continue the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, Mayan style.
