For today’s Mayan Daily Insight, we greet Thursday, February 5, 2009, as 6 Chicchan, the Serpent. We have a misconception about life. That misconception focuses on our forward movement. With expressions like, “the straight and narrow pathway” aren’t we really turning our dance of life into a straight jacket?
The movement of the serpent is never straight ahead. No, there is a melodic slithering movement, somewhat hypnotic in its nature but ever so fun. The serpent has the sensation of the earth beneath its belly, propelling itself forward through its muscular contractions against the solid ground.
Today we are reminded that there is a dance in life, and every part of our experience can help propel us forward. Passion is a gift, and it nourishes the soul. Night brings stillness, but rest is necessary for the body. The list goes on. Every twist and turn of the serpent body truly does propel it forward. Shouldn’t that movement be enriched by the many experiences found along the way? Our passion for living acts very much like the movement of the serpent, with every ounce of that body creating the momentum to continue on its winding pathway. Get off the straight and narrow and dance.
