Thursday, June 4, 2009 is 8 Kan (Seed, Lizard) in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar. For me this day has begun as one of focus and dedication. With a calm demeanor the day unfolds, and many seeds have been planted. What focus do we have on this day, if any?
Will our focus rest in the hands of the act, fully immersed in the tilling and planting, placing all that we have on the days to come? What then of today? Giving awareness and then taking it away into a displacement of time is a cruel hand to deal anyone, and will likely breed discontentment.
Should our focus be only on the purpose? Here we bring in the grandeur of honor, and the act of selflessness. To step outside of self is a grand adventure, for there is so much the world has to offer: the banquet is not just an act of filling one’s belly, it is also the sights, the aroma, the taste and the texture.
Perhaps our focus should be on the gain, looking for the greatest use of our time. Many have taken this course, and look what has come of it. Should we dismiss the concept of, “what’s in it for me”? No, not at all, for this point is a part of our learning.
Instead of creating a place of isolation where only one key can fit any one lock, why not bring in a combination of the many? Purpose gives us good reason to begin, and the Act is the cloth that binds the purpose together. Gain is the color woven into the fibers, and while it is not the fabric itself it is found in every aspect of our day.
Today is the day of Kan, the seed, and the message of this day is not of the seed itself but also what it becomes. We must take the time be clear about our tasks, and bring in enough faith to know that great things come from something as little as a mustard seed.
