Mayan Daily Insights: Our Qualities, Virtues, and Values

In the Mayan Daily Insights, Saturday, August 22, 2009 is 9 Akbal the Night. The ninth day of the 13 day cycle is one of question, almost a valuation of the steps we have taken thus far. Nine is also known as a highly spiritual number, but I see it as the power of the three’s, serving not just one aspect of self but all: body, spirit and the collective of the two as each aspect serves the other.

Akbal is the Night, but is also known as House. It is that time when we turn inward and assess what we have before us, the many options. It is a time when we measure and weigh, giving value to our steps so that we might better understand what is best for us.

We differ so much from other life on this planet, with the freedom to move as we choose. The plant, on the other hand, remains exactly where it is planted, almost as if pre-destined in its life cycle. It is fully dependent on what is given to it in respect to its food, water and light. The plant does not uproot itself and say, “I see myself as so much more”.

We have the ability to be conscious of our steps and give thought to where we are at any given moment. What purpose does this ability serve? Are we using our ability to perceive as a tool that helps us build what will serve us? Today is that day, to turn within and take awareness to its highest form.
