Mayan Daily Insights: Our Qualities, Virtues, and Values

As we translate the turning of the wheel in the Mayan Daily Insights, Saturday, September 19, 2009 is 11 Chuen, the Monkey. Yesterday had a more serious tone to it, or adult-like quality of Oc. Today we jump into the puddle of life with the playful tone of the child, Chuen.

My thoughts go to the extreme with the full-force energy of Chuen, thinking of words like “reckless” or the milder “carefree”. The child does know how to fully immerse themselves without thought of outcome. It’s only natural, the child is there to experience with gusto and passion and free from thought. Silly Child. I see myself, the adult, standing there watching the child, thinking about all the things that could go wrong before they could ever possibly happen. Silly Adult.

Both roles serve a purpose. We must have the freedom to explore our experiences to get the full flavor of the moment. We need that unbound pleasure! But in the same sense we have to have at least a little part of us standing to the side like the parent at the park, watching quietly to assure that this playtime doesn’t go too far into the extremes.

Today is day eleven, and a playful one at that. Life has a lot of hard work, but many rewards as well. Let yourself have the rewards, be it the swings, the slide or even the sandbox.
