Mayan Daily Insights: Our Qualities, Virtues, and Values

Today is the first day of a new cycle in relation to the ancient Mayan Tzolkin Calendar. The Mayans had many calendars, including astrology. The Tzolkin is the most spiritual, and still honored to this day. The Tzolkin calendar also ends in 2012.

It’s a new day – September 9, 2009. 999. Some see this day as one of significant meaning. I find it intriguing that it falls on the first day of the first glyph in the Mayan Tzolkin. Let me explain this:

The Tzolkin calendar consists of two wheels, turning together. The larger wheel is the glyphs, pictures that symbolize what the ancients may have seen as powers or gods, but I see them as the qualities of empowerment we have available in our lives. How could there be any correlation between a god and a quality or virtue? If we take the perspective of someone who lived thousands of years ago, those people were learning many of the basic concepts of living with consciousness in the physical world. Heck, we’re still learning this today.

The smaller wheel is the number wheel, 1 through 13. Why 13? The Mayans believed the number 13 to be very magical. I see it as the doorway to our next step, the evolution of the soul in this physical realm. Wonderful, consider me on-board for spiritual evolution.

It’s a new day – today is One Imix. The glyph or symbol Imix means birth, the primal beginning. Teamed with the number one we have the unity or oneness, and when we step into this place with certainty and clarity it is a quiet sanctuary and divine space. If we are in any way out of synch with our own divinity, and many things can pull us out, we can feel alone or isolated.

How do we bring ourselves back into alignment? When we step into a new day, or to a new level, we also release the old shell, much like a snake shedding its skin. The example I gave on the “Power of Group Intent” tele-conference last night was the chick breaking out of its safe but confining shell. We might call it “breakthrough”. As I awakened today, on the day of 999, September 9, 2009, I had not written anything about this day, or the Mayan Daily Insight. “What will I say?” I wondered. I cleared myself, and asked again, and deep within me I felt a fear that had no foundation or purpose. Others spoke of similar fears and intense feelings, with words like “fear storm”.

Today is a new day. As I began typing I was reminded, again, that perhaps I should turn on the TV news to see the state of the world. Such a fear-based idea!! All in favor of shifting our reality out of fear and hesitation say “Aye”.

Welcome to this day. It takes so much to fight the fears, and it will exhaust us quickly. Let’s instead stand in the center of our hearts, sending our voice reverberating through our body, mind, and spirit with a message of love, and then silence ourselves long enough to hear the echo of that sound within. An echo only comes when there is space, so lets free ourselves from the fears and doubts, knowing that the echo we hear returns to us as a confirmation that we are here, we are whole, and we are divine.
