In the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar, Tuesday, September 15, 2009 7 Manik, the Deer or Hand. I’m going to reach out on a limb here. Okay, don’t laugh, that’s a regular occurrence for me. I had written several days of the Mayan Daily Insights in one morning, stopping at Cimi. This morning brings us to the quality of Manik, the deer, to be followed by Lamat, the rabbit. Disney produced a wonderful movie about a deer and a rabbit.
Today is the seventh day of the cycle, the high-point in the numbering system. Seven is often associated with spirituality, as is nine, but I see seven as the inward, gentle aspect. The deer always walks in silence, eyes attuned to changes in its environment, ears rotating to monitor on a completely different level. The deer is a powerful symbol of observation.
Is this the sign of spirituality, the heightened awareness and ability to perceive? So much of our awareness is built upon the altar of fear, dampening our pleasure of living in the midst of perceived danger. Fear is not the end-all lesson of Manik, though. As we learn, and grow into our new-found perceptions we can relax, knowing that our heightened consciousness is there to serve us. Seeing must lead to believing, both in our acknowledgment of what we see and our ability to make the best choice in the situation.
