There is no greater teacher than the storyteller. Through the story we can fit together all the pieces of life, fulfilling our dreams and assuring that life will continue.

While the story is a gift the story can also be used to mislead us. Beware the stories we hear, taking some with a grain of salt. Even greater is the danger in the stories we create, for the mind can turn as quickly as a hummingbird in flight, not in purpose but as an act of self preservation. Let our memories hold truth, and our vision hold purpose.

Today in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar, on the day Thursday, October 29, 2009 we focus on the qualities of 12 Chuen, the Monkey. Sometimes we twist the story out of playfulness, sometimes for our own benefit.

Above all we seek to survive, and at times we can create rules and reasons to maintain our feeling of righteousness. Be mindful of the monkey mind, finding balance between the pleasure of its mischief, and the misdirection of its will.
