Consciousness and the Night

What exactly does the night have to offer? In the western and Christian belief systems so much emphasis is placed on light, yet so much of our time is spent in darkness, and in another state of consciousness.

Today we step into the number five with an expansion of consciousness. This insightful moment is often found in combination of the yin and the yang, combining the yin art of turning inward with the yang quality of seeking something we perceive to be universal and therefore outside of ourselves.

Sleep is seen as an inward, individual activity. With that said, as I listen to the sleeping sounds of the dog, and watch as her body responds with movement even while she is in this altered state of consciousness, I must ponder the idea that there is more to us than our waking moments.

Many of us are unable to clearly see the bridge between our mental awake state and our spiritual consciousness. Our minds are powerful tools, and often rule our world. We need the night, a change of perspective, to find our clarity, and to process those pieces that do not fit in our daylight world. While we may not understand much of our nighttime endeavors, we still reap the benefits of the night.
