Is Asking Whats In it For Me All That Bad?

We make some interesting turns in our evolution as societies, cultures, and people. Most of what we create is of value and purpose. How often do we take a step in our learning and isolate it into a dogma?

One example came about over time, without benefit of an origin to add details for better understanding. Which belief do I refer to? The idea that it is wrong for us to ask, “What’s in it for me?”

Already I can see heads turn, eyes widening, and someone out there thought, “Oh, you’re in so much trouble now”, as if the principal of the school would put me in detention.

This morning as I asked about today’s focus, and in the Mayan Daily Insights, Friday, November 20, 2009 is 8 Ben, the Reed, that misdirected concept was offered.
So taking this thought into a little deeper spiritual perspective, we will talk about the nature of Ben, the Reed, as it relates to the 8th number in the 13 number wheel on the Mayan Calendar. Allow me to offer this thought:

It is not about selfishness or exclusion. It is not about hierarchy or value. When we look at our interactions with others aren’t we talking about connecting? When we really connect there is no need for any judgments or any of the other trivial thoughts.

What’s in it for me? Plenty! Shouldn’t you be a willing participant in every thought, action, and interaction in your life? What’s in it for me? Joy, expression, communication, sharing, peace, resolution, laughter, building, creativity, mutual success, challenge, opportunity, passion, realization, giving, release, restoration, life, and love.
