For many this day is known as the eve of Christmas. It is difficult for us to connect ourselves, leaping from the stress and struggles of our daily lives into the idea that someone or something could be so sacred. It is beyond our comprehension that we could look into the mirror and see someone who too should be viewed as sacred.
Today is Thursday, December 24, 2009, and in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar it is 3 Manik, the Deer or Hand. This posting is not about a religious belief, nor any tradition. It is about the idea that we can look forward to what comes tomorrow. There is hope, the understanding that things will change.
Today we rest on the shoulders of Christmas eve, and perhaps in-between the flurry of activity there might be a moment when we look down at the children at our feet, or the child within our heart, and see hope. The gentle hand of Manik is a sign of this hope. Perhaps it is time to remember this sentiment in our tradition.
