There is an expression, “Every good turn deserves another”. When we look at the life cycle of the man and classify it in the plant world, we’re certainly not annuals having one season then fading away. We are more like the perennials, with season after season.
Today is Saturday, December 19, 2009, and in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar it is 11 Ik or 11 Wind. Ik is the spirit, traveling in a flowing manner, unseen yet most important in the entire life experience. Life is much like the seasons, moving like the tide with ebb and flow. We move about in starts and stops, reaching conclusions and all too quickly leap into the next “season”, and that season can come in the blink of an eye, a turn in the calendar, a moon cycle, or a lifetime.
Let’s go back to the words, “Every good turn deserves another”, and add another expression. “A rolling stone gathers no moss”. Seasons go by, and eventually even the most enduring plant will fade away – but while it is here the perennial lives each season for that season alone. New leaves emerge in the spring, and flowers set. The hummingbird finds as much value in the new perennial as it does in the old. Each season is its own, even though it is influenced by what has passed.
Live each season, whether it is a breath or a lifetime, with the flow of Ik, the wind, Let what has passed be a part of you, but be in this moment, this season. The moment we have, right now, is only passing. Make the most of it.
