This day is a pivotal day in many ways. We have the turnaround point of the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, the lowest point in the sky, and the beginning of the journey toward the next spring. We also have the 13th day, again a pivotal point from which we can see where we have been, and where we are going, and stand in the middle.
Today is December 21, 2009, and it is also 13 Kan, the Seed in the ever turning wheels of the Mayan Tzolkin calendar. Ah, for new beginnings, but let’s focus on the seed.
The seed is the accumulation of a season or two of light, earth, and a changing world. It is instilled with purpose and value, carrying forth a promise for tomorrow.
On this day we can remember that nothing comes from nothing, and something’s step in to fill a space where nothing’s hold space. All great things come from great things, even the seeds that seem so insignificant in their present state. The acorn becomes the mighty oak because there is nothing better for it to do. The seeds you plant for your tomorrow, what are they made of? Can you see the great things, and let them take root? Can you be in your solstice, the still of the winter, with the faith that tomorrow brings a brighter day and a longer light?
