Mayan Daily Insights: Our Qualities, Virtues, and Values

Within a lifetime we do a lot of planning and building, and experience many days of completion. What do you call “The day after it’s done”? Could it be “The day of reflection”? That description works well for the Mayan glyph for today, water. Maybe it’s “The day of ascension? Some would say that is pushing it. I challenge any rejection of ascension; it is our right and our privilege, being here in humanity.

What is ascension but to rise above, but the word ascension is still a hard pill to swallow. We associate it with greatness, divinity, and it’s generally considered something that comes about only after death. Is this true?

I think of ascension as growth, taking what we know, mixing in our perceptions of today, building upon our ideas and thoughts and forming them into new concepts. Does it jingle in our pockets? No, what we gain physically cannot compare to what we have mentally and spiritually gained. We are endowed with not just perception but the ability to mold those perceptions into thoughts, ideas, communications, creations. Oh how we take our abilities for granted!

As we near 2012 and the proposed shift in consciousness, what will we have? Could this shift be in any way described as ascension?

Today is December 6, 2009, and 11 Muluc, the Water in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar. So today we “mull over” the things we know, experience what we might think are random thoughts. With the knowledge we’ve amassed we can create or do something that will shift an entire planet, or do absolutely nothing. Both hold the qualities of water. Through our ability to ascend or grow we constantly create opportunities for something new in life, even if we try to pretend it is “just another day”.
