Mayan Daily Insights: Our Qualities, Virtues, and Values

In preparing today’s posting I found myself delaying, with the concept in place but no words to describe it.  You know how it is, when you put so much of yourself into what you do, but at times find yourself feeling depleted and almost overwhelmed by your own creations.

It took a few attempts before I realized how much I needed to call my creative energies back home. As I did this simple exercise my mood shifted, the veil lifted, and I was back on track.  It was ironic that the act of restoring my energy flow fit so beautifully into the original image of today’s posting: the snowball effect.

Today, January 7, 2010 is 4 Imix, the Alligator in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar.  We don’t recognize the power of the snowball before it comes together.  It all begins with one snowflake, just one, but without the one nothing comes together.  Try to find the origin of the snowball, and its unlikely it will be found.  In fact we no longer see the snowflakes, instead we see it as something different.  It is the snowball effect.

Today is 4 Imix, reminiscent of the coming together of “like to like” to build something we call a creation.   To build my own snowball I had to pull myself together.  It’s amazing, isn’t it, to be able to reach down and gather a handful of snowflakes, and when you open your hand you have something new.  Simplistic, yes, but those simple ideas are the home to the greatest new ideas.  Oh, and the alligator: if we look close enough we might be able to spot the original creation, the ancient primal substance.  When you open your hand and see the snowball it’s still just a handful of snowflakes.
