Today is a day for rejoicing.  We begin a new year, 2010, as well as a new decade.  We’ve made our resolutions to let bygones be bygones, and built an enormous gust of hope that the next decade will be be different.  New year new ways, not always a repeat of the “same old same old”.

As the sun rises we have a choice to make: to live in this new world we have imagined, or to take the familiarity of the world around us and say, “It’s just another day”.

Where does the responsibility lie: does the world have to live up to our expectation, or are we the creator?   Who creates our perceptions, and who builds our dreams?

The Mayan Tzolkin calendar has offered us insights each and every day, insights into the abilities we hold in our hands.  We make it, or we break it, and the cycle goes on.  Eventually the wheels return to the same combination, and in a gentle way we are again offered the opportunity to embrace our gifts of consciousness.

This year begins with a wonderful combination in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar.  Today is January 1, 2010, or 11 Men, the Eagle, in the Mayan Daily Insights.  I have written much about the acts of service found in the concept of the Eagle: today we will look at this quality in a different light.

As far as the world is concerned yes, it is just another day.  The earth rotates, yet we think the sun moves across our sky, serving us its warmth and light.  The earth maintains its shape underneath our feet, and we expect it to do no more, and no less.  It’s all about us and our perceptions of our own world.  Every step of the way we are served something that sustains us: a breath, light, vision, space, life.

Today is 11 Men, the Eagle.  Perhaps there is no better time than today to appreciate the tools we have been given, even bring our perceptions of those tools into more of a place of honor.  The Eagle is not just about what we do or say, it is a symbol of honor that reminds us to hold firmly to our dreams; to keep within our hearts the purpose behind our actions; and to bring even more of our love for life itself.  What a gift we have been given, far too precious a gift to let it be trampled into the mud.  But then again, we have another gift that we at times forget: freedom to see things as we choose.

Today is a day for rejoicing, and we can move forward carrying our banner of beliefs that yes, there is no better time than now for us to own up to our abilities and let the world follow us in a way that we’ve never allowed it to before.
