It’s all for a Purpose

Yesterday we took a turn toward the animal kingdom by using a groundhog to gauge our emergence from our inner sanctuary.  While humans do not hibernate in the same way as the groundhog, beaver or bear we do certainly go through cycles.  I know I have felt the frustration and resistance of being in my dormant stage, longing for the excitement that comes in the more active times.

Let’s linger for one more day with the groundhog.  You know the story: if this creature of nature sees its shadow then six more weeks of winter are to be expected. When I think about that concept, six more weeks of winter, my immediate response is my own feelings about it.  It’s all about me in this moment.

So the groundhog makes its appearance, sees its shadow and returns to its wintertime home.  There is so much that has just taken place.  We begin with the desire to move back into a lifestyle that nourishes and fulfills us, and even if spring isn’t here yet it doesn’t hurt to check on its status.  The groundhog leaves its safe place to interact with the light, seeking its warmth and brilliance.  Even though it returns to its burrow the groundhog does so with a greater understanding, and can better do what is best for its own survival.

February 3, 2010 is 5 Lamat, the Star in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar.  Five is a very action-oriented number, luring us away from the comfort and safety of what we know toward our next step, but its all for a purpose.  To stay within the past would likely be detrimental, denying us growth and eventually even our breath.  Even though we take a step into the unknown we do so with the light already instilled in us, and this is the message of Lamat, the Star.  We step forward because it is the right thing to do, and then we take whatever is the best course.  All of it is for our own benefit, and it is not selfish in any way.  When faced with the thought of six more weeks of winter we have an opinion about it because we should.  We have to think of ourselves and make the best decision.  Even though we turn back toward our safe haven we do so with the light.

This might not be one of those leaps and bounds moments but that is okay.  Even when we’re standing still there is movement, and the answers come to us just as much as we go toward the answers.

  1. Jeni Clark Says:

The Lamat Star was on my house in November after the passing of a young neighbor who had cancer. My daughter who is exceptionally gifted called it the “angel ship”. I have been searching for “what it was” and found this site. I have LOTS of pictures of it. Please let me know how I can post them.
    Thank you for your time.
