Yesterday we talked of the joy and the heartbreak that comes when the things that give us pleasure come and go so quickly.  It is sad that we cannot always just have and hold, and its even sadder that we hold so tightly that we become lost in our memories.

What are memories made of?  Why do we have this phenomenon of being able to remember something that is no longer before us, and in doing so we can measurably stimulate the brain as if it were really happening, really there?  Monday February 22, 2010 is 11 Manik, the Deer or Hand in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar.

Our ability to remember must have value far greater than our simple survival.  We infuse experiences with emotions, painting a story within a story.  Sometimes we forget that we are the creator and make things bigger than we are, or we pull up a chair and handhold our remembrances as though we were still in the moment.

Today is the day of Manik, the gentle hand that guides us to greater understanding.  We must expand our scope of vision to see how big we really are, and then we can see all the pieces a little bit clearer, and perhaps fit a few of those pieces together.  What are memories made of?  Our own essence, and the connectivity we have with our kindred souls.
