Our world is interesting that we can have both tangible objects we can hold in our hands, and call complete, but the processes that lead to that conclusion are separate threads of thoughts and actions that weave together into a tapestry of time. Where any process we undertake will lead us is never fully disclosed, not until we arrive at our destination.
Wednesday, March 17, 2010 is 8 Oc, the Dog in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar. I’m going to take the analytical approach today and do a breakdown of the meaning of the number eight as well as the symbol for Oc, the Dog.
Eight, as we know, is an amazing symbol, for it carries in its shape the infinity symbol. What does this mean? It could mean the constant flow, inward and outward, that shapes our world. It could also mean that our journey continues on, so how could we ever say that anything ends? Even something that dies away gives to some degree to those around it.
Today I also see the eight as two instances of four. With four we have the seasons, and the four directions. The medicine wheel, a symbol of life, unfolds as four quadrants in a circle. With the eight we have both the exterior appearance of the seasons, directions and wheel. What we see is only part of the picture, there is a force that lies deep within that motivates and encourages us to move onward.
This is where we will bring in reference to Oc, the Dog. The Mayan Tzolkin Calendar is a collection of 20 glyphs, or symbols, each representing an aspect of our human existence. Oc speaks strongly on this day of commitment, even in those times when it doesn’t seem to matter. What is seen is of no more significance than what is hidden, in fact the visible world is a byproduct of our spiritual creative self.
The message from Oc on this day: be true to yourself on all levels.
