Mayan Daily Insights: One Day, One Insight

Today is the Vernal Equinox, a day when night and day are equals.  How often do we find equality in this world?  Instead we have this amazing motion, the ebb and flow that keeps our world turning ’round.

This is the story of the Mayan glyph of Ben, the Reed.  Today is Saturday, March 20, 2010, and it is 11 Ben, the Reed in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar.  The reed shows us flexibility, a symphony of movement that combines fluidity and resistance.

When we look inside the functioning of our brain we find an area of the brain that gives us the ability to respond to the movements in the world around us and adapt.  This ability is not confined to our autonomic functions.  This is a quality found on the soul or purposeful self.  We have our days and nights, our need to fulfill our own purpose yet live in a world with so many others.

There is a striving for balance, and today with the equinox we can celebrate that balance and enjoy its calm demeanor.  Many seek this state through meditation or yoga.  But one day of balance in half a year tells us that life is more than that perfect calm state.  We need movement, and the secret is to find it with the flexibility of the reed.  Take your deep breath, and ready yourself by building the momentum for tomorrow.
