Hope or Expectation?

Most of us don’t see or watch the changes that take place in nature.  The ladybug does not have its distinctive red color or spots in the early part of its life, and the butterfly looks nothing like its winged outcome in its own beginnings.  It is the same with the seedling, and to some extent it is so within our own lives.

Thursday, March 11, 2010 is 2 Kan the Seed and the Lizard in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar.  We go through changes, and each segment in our lives has its meaning and purpose.  Still, as I type this, I see how I have quantified my life, seeing what I had yesterday as a little bit less than today, which means that I also have hope or expectations of tomorrow.

Which will it be, hope or expectation?  Looking back at the earlier stages of the ladybug, the butterfly, or the seedling it is clear: none would reach its maturity without being exactly what it is in its beginning.  What does all this mean?  Looking at our own lives, how can we judge who or what we will be tomorrow based on our today?  We may have reached our peak, but again there is a chance that we haven’t even caught a glimmer of that peak yet.  For today, let’s make the most of where we stand right now, for that hope or expectation that we carry is dependent on our performance today.
