It Does Us Good to Look Within

The last few days have been focused on the darkness, not in a bad sense, only in the sense of what we see when we close our eyes.  It does us good I think to spend at least a moment or two in that perspective, else we think that our world is primarily outside of ourselves.  It does us good to look within.

If we wander for a moment into the more poetic perspective brought out by the Mayan glyph of the day: Tuesday, March 16, 2010 is 7 Muluc, the Water in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar.  I see the image of the pond, the stillness of the water, only this time it is from the perception of the darkness.  Maybe the new moon inspired this viewpoint, maybe it was the stars.  Perhaps it is because even though I can see glimmers of light through the trees as the sun rises, to me the night still lingers.

As the day begins we oftentimes respond with a flurry of activity.  There is always so much to do, and so many thoughts of the outside world.  But we have as much night as we have day, and it is not by chance, it is by design.  We can return to the focus on Muluc, the water, and whether it is daytime or night the water still remains.  Both perspectives give us something.  With the night we may not see everything, but we can imagine.  It does us good to look within as well, to perk our imagination once again.
