Remember the old days, licking the cookie dough off the spoon? For some of us it is a fond memory, for others it could have been yesterday. Wasn’t it great, the anticipation? It was much like a game, and even though we knew that spoon would come our way, there was still that chance in our minds and that hopeful expression, waiting and watching. The moment comes, and there is nothing beyond that spoon, at least not for the next 12 minutes while the cookies bake in the oven.
Today is Thursday, March 18, 2010, 9 Chuen, the Monkey in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar. Chuen has been described as the inner child, a part of ourselves that may seem to be light years away from the glyph we spoke of yesterday, with the weight of commitment on its shoulders.
Today we have the spoon, and that might be the highlight of our day. Yet there is something more to come, something we know will happen. Which way do we turn? Sometimes our heart beats strongly for that forbidden fruit, and in my family there was the voice of taboo around eating raw cookie dough. Still, we had to have that spoon.
The message for today: While we see what tomorrow will bring, there is no reason why we should deny ourselves the pleasure of today. This doesn’t mean eating the whole batch of cookies before they bake, but let’s not deny that once the groundwork is laid out there is still the spoon.
