Yesterday’s message was very closely tied to the concept of transformation, bringing us to a greater understanding that we do not always see what is around the corner. Is there reason for our short-sightedness? Perhaps yes, if we were to see too far into the future we might reject what we would become, simply because we’re not ready for it.

Friday, March 12, 2010 is 3 Chicchan, the Serpent in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar. Today we can bring together that concept of transformation with the focus of relationships. No, this is not about our intimacy with others, but within us, our own life and path.

When we look at Chicchan and its image as the serpent, it is easy to grasp the picture of a snake shedding its old skin. This release or transformation comes about only at the appropriate time. The snake is nourished enough to grow, but not yet growing to the point that the old skin constricts it. The change in the serpent comes in response to changes in environment as well as changes in the snake itself.

We too can shed our old skin by recognizing the difference between what does and does not define us. Many times we hold on to the insignificant or obsolete, trying to grow into our next step while at the same time clinging to the old skin. Spring is around the corner, that time for renewed growth. Are you ready to let go of those things that no longer fit?
