Yesterday we talked about multiple streams, and perhaps we found a glimmer of awareness that so much is happening every moment that we do not see. Could the same be true of what we receive?
It is so easy in this world to give the most attention to the things we can measure. The years go by, and we count every one of them. We fill our pockets, and our belly, and call it the fruits of our labor. Measure by measure we add up what we have done and what we have gained, and in the end we joke about it and say, “The one who dies with the most toys wins”. Funny, wasn’t April Fools Day yesterday, the day that we say the joke is on you?
Today is Friday, April 2, 2010. The same measure of time lead up to this day, and the same measure will carry us into tomorrow. In the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar this day is 11 Cimi, the glyph known as Death. Oops, how did we get here?
Worry not, when we talk of the sign of Cimi we are not talking about taking away everything you’ve got, and it is not about the end of life as we know it. Keep your breath, your measure for measure moments. Just remember, for every measure that comes to you there is another that goes away. No matter what we gain in our measure for measure, there will always be the cost of living.
This is not meant to dampen the festivities of Chicchan with the great pleasures in life. Instead we hear the voice in the distance that reminds us that we can either stand in the viewpoint of quantification, watching the tide come in and then suddenly withdraw again, or we can see things from a different perspective, and realize that there are some things that cannot be measured. The sky is the limit, and when we look past counting the days we find there is a much bigger picture.
