The Reed is an amazing vessel, is it any wonder that it is used as a symbol in the Mayan calendar? The flowers were woven into garlands and gifted to the gods as an act of gratitude. The roots were carved into bowls and utensils, and burned as fuel. The young shoots were eaten. The stems were used to make reed boats, sails, cloth, sandals, and other useful items.
Today I speak of the Reed as another vessel, that of the passage of the moments of our life within the sea of internal activity. As healers we speak of flow and the value of the breath. As individuals we know we must let go of the past, and though we don’t say it we know the best way to move forward is to glide into our next step.
Allowing the flow of energies within our life is not just about the good stuff. There are times when a surge of energy arises that, like the storm, must pass. What is the best thing we can do? Do we weather the storm, have faith?
Today is Friday, April 9, 2010, and it is 5 Ben the Reed in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar. We have our highs, and our lows, our night and day. We have the saying “This too shall pass” and it usually does without much disarray. We travel a long journey, and should make the most of it, allowing the waves to carry us as far as we can imagine.
