It’s been a long time since I have been to a carnival and stepped into the hall of mirrors. It is still a memorable place, made most notable by its distorted view. Why would that perception stand out in our memories?
Today is 4 Edznab the Flint in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar. Reading the Mayan calendar is like reading a code book. Each symbol has a meaning, and when combined with the numbering system they grow beyond just an image on a page or any name we give them.
I was not immediately impressed by the direction for today’s post, using the hall of mirrors, but I understand now why this message was worthy of mention. It is the depth, what is found when you look past the first impression, past the illusions. I look around me and see many people who accept the face value and will argue that what they know is right. I also know many who take a closer look, delving into the depth of their life to see not just the pieces but how they all fit together. This is our growth, our evolution.
Edznab is about that mirror, or more precisely seeing that a mirror exists. The mirror is our structure, the weaving together of our perceptions and beliefs into a neat little package that we base our decisions upon. Wouldn’t you like to know that the mirror you face is giving you a clear view?
At some point we all break mirrors. Taking that step is never by accident. It’s a frightening thing to step past the perceptions we hold for ourselves, but underneath that mirror is the very foundation of who we are. Yes we can accept things for face value, or we can look beyond and tap into the very core that makes it all make sense.
