How can we tell the difference between a simple distraction and that gnawing feeling in the pit of our gut telling us to change? The road is filled with twists and bends, and occasional crossroads. When do we know which turn to take?
Tues May 18 is 5 Eb the Road in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar. The number five, in my opinion, is one of turbulence, but in a good way. We have the sensations of pleasure and pain, and it is not a matter of turning the dial toward pleasure all the time. Our senses are a part of our early warning system, giving us a direction, in a sense, on where to focus our attention. When we listen to that gut level feeling, pay attention to the discomfort, we are at a crossroad. But isn’t it better to turn for a reason than turn blindly?
There are two symbols in the Mayan calendar that sit back to back, two that let us teeter between the conscious and unconscious worlds. These are Eb, the symbol for today, and Ben, the Reed which appears tomorrow. We’ve done well, stayed alive even during those times of unconscious activity. A part of us does step up every now and then in a move to awaken us. The question is how well we listen.
As we reach that crossroad we have many options. Sometimes we know exactly which direction to take, giving value to that gut level feeling, or just knowing the right way to turn. Other times we might just stop, plant ourselves in the middle of that intersection, and ponder. It’s okay to awaken, and it’s okay that it might take a moment to find yourself as you transition to the next waking state.
