Early this morning I awakened in the darkened times to see a bright star outside the window shining toward me. I had noticed that star as I drifted into sleep the night before. I stayed there for a moment, looking at this star, or perhaps it was a planet? Then it began to fade, and moved away. Things are not always what they seem.
Today is 12 Cimi, the Glyph of Death in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar. Sometimes we wish upon a star, and wait for our wish to come true. Given the distance between our worldly abode and the far reaches of the universe it seems like there are times when we could wait a very long time.
The sign of Cimi is called the sign of death, but I view it more as a sign of release. Perhaps it is letting go of our childhood fantasies to wish upon a star. It could be letting go of the promises made that cannot complete themselves, or misconceptions we carry of ourselves that we need some powerful force outside ourselves to get through our current troubles. Today is a day of letting go, growing up in a sense, and being the star that makes our own wish come true.
