I know there have been days, many a day, when I have awakened to shift into my day as if I were the only one who existed. It might feel like a quiet morning, there on my own, but the same feeling can be achieved even with the presence of others. This state of consciousness focuses so easily on the one, and offers a wealth of awareness and direction.
Today is not one of those days. This day is 8 Ik the Wind in the Mayan Tzolkin Calendar. I awaken to starlight, and turn my initial awakening awareness toward the message of this day, a message that has endured throughout time.
We think of ourselves as singular, and sometimes as if we are the only one in existence, and we do so for good reason. This is our gift, to walk on this earth in a way that makes each day different. How often do we overlook what surrounds us every moment of our life?
The wind, known in the Mayan calendar as Ik, is like a collective consciousness. We can only imagine the invisible force that is behind that wind. The only time we ever acknowledge it is when we feel its force, and even then it is usually just that minute part of the wind that touches our skin. How simple minded and self absorbed we seem in that moment. How big is the wind? It’s difficult to say, though we can imagine. Where does it begin, and where is it going? Do we ever give these questions thought? No, we are that singular one, and the wind surrounds us, the breath of Spirit embraces us. In those moments of awakening we are one, and we are a part of the collective.
