Today brings us the summer solstice, not just the start of a season but the full force, landing in the middle day. This day is the longest, well, no longer than any other but it is a day when the light sustains longer than any other day of the year.
The solstice has been a landmark in earth awareness since the beginning of time, and many find it to be a time of celebration. Does anyone ever look back to mourn the end of yesterday, clinging to the point of ‘almost there’? No, even in times of loss our hearts cannot remain lock within something that is no longer a part of the ‘living’.
Let’s return to the solstice, the longest day of the year. We stretch out our arms and feel the warmth of the sun upon our face and the feeling is divine, isn’t it? We could toss in a few other words and call that feeling ‘delicious’ as we enjoy this abundance of light.
Today in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar it is the day 13 Cimi, the symbol of death. Oops, there goes that ‘feel good’ feeling. Wait though; the message is not anything like it appears, but just the opposite. It’s okay to let go of the old, to release what no longer fits. Yesterday we talked about this same thing, letting the old ways die away. We’ve worked hard to get to the point we have reached whether we are young or old. We are at our best, right now, and the great news is that every day we can wake up and start again. Every day we can say, ‘I am at my best, I am wiser now than I have ever been before’. The Cimi sign in the Mayan calendar, its not about dying away, its about letting go so we can fully live. Isn’t that what we’ve worked for?
Have a great summer solstice day!
