Expanding What We See In A Handful

There are many aspects to the transition we make from childhood to adult.  One of those things we learn is how to plan for tomorrow.  Let’s take a look back in history. Mankind learned that when you have an abundance or windfall, like the successful hunting of a buffalo, how to maximize that success.  It was not all about the full belly today, but preserving some of that hunt to survive many tomorrows. Mankind took it further by finding as much use as possible from what was gained, using fur, hide and bones as tools for survival.

Today the wheels in the Mayan calendar turn to the combination of 11 and Kan, the Seed.  As I focused on the topic intuitively I was asked to offer a reminder of how much we learned so long ago.  Imagine holding a handful of seeds, the seeds from a harvest.   Look not just at the seeds but how smart we have become in what we do with those seeds.  We choose some seed to eat today, some tomorrow, and some to give back to the earth in a request to create even more seed.

Kan, the Seed is also called the Lizard.  The lizard has learned to survive using little tactics, like changing colors, or leaving behind a tail in order to survive. It may seem like a little thing to know how to take what you have and use it in the most success producing way, but look how much we are still practicing that technique.  Not only do we practice things like how to invest the money we receive and spend it wisely, but we’ve creatively learned how to spend it before it’s in our hand, a move that doesn’t always come out in our best interest.

For today let’s give a moment to appreciate some of the little things we have learned that contribute to the good life we have.  Saying, ‘Oh yes that works’ leads us to remembering those simple little things, and expanding those tools in the future.  Take it a step further and we find wisdom in knowing that we know what works.
