Let’s talk a bit about the number four, if you don’t mind. In shamanism there is a medicine wheel, with above and below, and four directions. We are always in the middle, becoming the seventh component to the wheel. We’ll talk more on the number seven in three days, when we see who stands with us in that space.
As we turn the wheels of the Mayan calendar today we turn to 4 Caban, the glyph of Earth. Today the words don’t come easy when I attempt to describe my vision, so allow me to share a story. Yesterday during one of my spiritual reading sessions via phone was describing to my client an image of her standing outside the candy store, waiting to get in. I think we all experience that feeling now and then in life, seeing but not fully having what we see. Later in the session I saw this image again, but she had shifted so much from the information given to her that she was now inside the candy store, ready to have what she had separated from so long ago.
I see todays symbol of Caban the earth much like that little girl standing in the middle of the room, slowly twirling with a look of such appreciation. Yet we also have the number four, the number of the seasons and the medicine wheel. Put up four walls and you have a box, a container which if you reach out and touch any of those walls you have a direction. Yet in the middle is the twirling one, able to turn without having to choose any direction. She simply is who she is.
So today we combine the container with the uncontainable. That is the absolute best thing in life, to have both the yin and the yang working together, instead of having to be one or the other. Life is wonderful in itself, twirling in the middle, and it becomes even better when we infuse that life into any choice we make to move in any direction.
