Nearly every culture since the beginning of time has had some concept something bigger than us. Mankind has created philosophy, going so far as to discuss our desire to understand why we want to understand our life and the bigger picture. We are such great thinkers.
Despite the many writings over time, some considered sacred, our understanding and interpretation of our creator or higher source cannot be finalized into one single view. Is this by design, that each of us must hold our own beliefs and perceptions, perhaps showing us that each of us has our own unique relationship with our divine source?
Today in the Mayan calendar the wheels turn to the combination of the tone 1 and the glyph of Ahau, the Light. We can find writings that say “I am the one” and the “all that is” emanates from a single source. We can only imagine the vastness, the greatness that is the “all that is”. Our thoughts are tuned toward seeing our source as the infinite, always bigger than life itself.
Today is 1 Ahau, the Light. There is a simplicity to the message I see in this day, that life itself is much simpler than we make it out to be.
There is a song, “What if God was one of us”. If this question were taken seriously we would find a vast number of responses ranging from such a thought being blasphemy to the idea that we are that divine presence, each representing a tiny fragment of the whole. In each response we weigh and measure who we are in relation to that bigger picture.
Let’s return to the tone and glyph combination for today, 1 Cauac, the Light. When we have one there is no conflict because there is nothing to weigh and measure against. There is simplicity. Yet the light by itself has nothing to reflect upon, and so the many exists. We have the poles, the opposing forces, the night, and for what purpose? Is there some hidden moral or truth in the duality we live with, or is it simply in place so that the light can know of its own existence?
Finding answers is a wonderful thing, but I think it is greatly out shined by the simple fact that we can ask.
