This sounds like such a morbid topic, especially after yesterday’s talk of celebration. The expression is quite true, we are living on borrowed time. Though this is something we all know, our psyche seeks to ignore this fact. So why does the Mayan Tzolkin calendar delve into such a morbid thought?
Today in the Mayan calendar we look at the combination of tone and glyph of 1 Cimi, or Death. I find it ironic that just last night I did something I so rarely do, watching a tv show on an occult fantasy topic, the type of show that always lingers around the topic of not just death, but the idea that something out there could overwhelm us, taking our breath from us in little more than a heartbeat.
Did you know that shows and movies of this nature are a sign of our political and economic health? We long to break free from our own captivity, no matter which level it is found. We are not intended to live in accumulation. Every breath we take is used and returned. Our thoughts are not meant to linger either, for obsession with “what was” only blinds us to “what is”. In a way isn’t that like the death of a moment, to miss out on what is within our scope now because we’re so lost within our past?
When we step past the word we use for Cimi, Death , perhaps our words fall short of giving a clear description. Letting go is a must for our survival, whether it is our thoughts, breath, digestion, perceptions, and just about everything else we take on as “ours”. We are living on borrowed time, with so little that truly becomes our own, and yet we rarely appreciate what we do keep. We do have two things that will always be ours: the wisdom we gain through our experience, and the ability to live in-between our perceptions and the elements and see things in a whole new light.
