Have you ever hear the quote, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” We can look around our country and point a finger at many events and patterns that we all want to change. When we look within our own life it becomes a little bit harder – we want to be more successful or happier, but continue to do things the same day in and day out.
Today in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar we’ll look at the combination of 5 Caban, the Earth. People are great at assessing the patterns in our lives and building stories around those patterns, then turn around and create rules to live by whether they work or not. We are, at times, square pegs living in a round world.
How do we solve the square peg and round hole situation? Bringing our attention to the present moment helps. When we do things the same way we used to we go beyond just using our experience from the past as a tool for today. Sometimes we actually give up our power to make a choice, to see the bigger picture and all the details, and to choose based not on what has worked in the past but what is needed right now for both ourselves and others.
Today the Mayan calendar turns to the combination of 5 Caban, the Earth, and our task is to be here in the moment, living and responding by being here now and seeing things for what they are today. As we move beyond 2012 we may see that life is not always what we thought it was.
