We have some interesting concepts around the “light” and what it means. Physically we have the light of the sun that illuminates the earth, and invisibly we are given life through its radiation. Spiritually we have formed an early concept of the light as a being and creator, our source. Through the centuries the old beliefs of the sun gods and other celestial gods have been dismissed and banished, yet the almighty one who is praised in the more modern, accepted religions is still referred to as “the light”.
Today we have a full moon, and it is as if the sun and the moon are working together to reflect this light upon us. ”Look at this glorious place”, they say, sharing the light in one form or another night and day. Or, this could just be a matter of angles, merely a mathematical reflection from one rock to another.
I prefer the first theory, not for its literal meaning, but let’s admit it: why is it that this place holds such a collection of life, while so many other rocks in the universe do not?
Today in the Mayan calendar we find the combination of 9 Imix, the Alligator. It’s all about the rock today, or more accurately the life that this rock contains. What a great place we live in, and by design we do not just stand in this light 24/7, but flow through ever-changing cycles of light and dark that also change in their length and intensity. Put it all together and every inch of this “rock” gets its own special greeting at one time or another.
Today with the Mayan tone of 9 we are reminded to reflect on how special we are, and what a special place we live upon. With the glyph of Imix, the alligator we are reminded not just to recognize life, but to appreciate it as well. Aho.
