Nothing we do is without purpose, though it can seem that way. It is only when we allow ourselves to become so immersed in the stories of our lives that we lose sight of our reason why. That is the way of unconsciousness, sleepwalking our way day in and day out.
In the ancient Mayan calendar each day had meaning. Today, for example, is the combination of 13 Eb, the Road. This is not the same as saying “this is Saturday, July 17th”. The date, to me, has little significance. It is what we do with that day that counts, what we bring to the day and what we walk away with when all is said an done.
It is a long and winding road that we walk on, and no matter what happens we can always gain something from the experience. Here we could easily fit in the argument between those who hold a few amazing moments in their life but claim the rest is just “filler”. How could we ever say that the things we do with the majority of our time are not by choice but by need, only serving to give us that handful of moments?
The long and winding road: 13 Eb reminds us that each step we take gives us something worth remembering, whether it is one of those amazing moments that we “live for” or one of those unconscious routine times that gives us a chance to awaken. Every moment, every day, each step along the way has value and purpose, and it is our right and privilege to find its meaning within our own life.
