This 13 day period, beginning two days ago with 1 Ahau, is certainly shaping up to be an insightful time, at least for this writer. Much of this cycle has been focused on the big and the little, and our acts to quantify and compare so that we can build our own perceptions. This is exactly the place we find ourselves on this day, not on the one or the other, but the space in-between.
As we turn the wheels on the Mayan calendar to another day, we find today is 3 Ik, the Wind. There is no such thing as a two-sided coin, there will always be something in the middle that separates those two sides yet bonds them to one another.
Even our relationships are three sided, consisting of not just the two individuals but the connection and experiences they share with each other. A family is more than just a collection of people, it is the family environment itself, the shared perceptions and values.
How do we bring Ik, the Wind into this story? Ik is named the wind, and our strongest link to the wind is our breath. Is our breath two different actions? No, it is three. Inhale, exhale, but even more important is the exchange that take place in the inhale and exhale process.
How do we use this concept in our everyday life? Perhaps by treating our relationships, whether personal or business, as a living, and we could go so far as to say a “breathing” creation. What purpose is found in the soul of the relationship? What emotion or tone is set? What value is exchanged? All of these come together to give us the physical results, the tangible world we live in.
