Here it is, early morning, with the sun having risen enough to stream light through the windows of my own private world. This is one of those days when I have yet to write today’s posting, and so in this early morning light that teeters between night and day I ponder the message that will be conveyed. It comes with clarity, but only so far, and I am left to bridge the gap and translate imagery into words.
Today in the Mayan calendar we turn the wheels to 13 Cauac, the Rainstorm. On a physical level this is not so welcomed on this summertime holiday of the Fourth of July. No one wants rain to dampen their picnic, fireworks or parade. This particular rainstorm doesn’t come by means of raindrops, it is symbolic in nature.
So here I am on this early holiday morning, unfolding a story as gradually as the light brightens into day. What is so interesting about this morning or any other morning that comes along is that it combines old and new. I’ve awakened to a mission that formed well before this day, yet I am responsive to the events that will occur throughout the day. I will have many answers, yet will have opportunity to experience many things in a new way.
In the image that I am tasked to translate I see a comparison between the creator and the creation, the infinite wisdom and the everyday role we play to take the pieces of wisdom we have collected and make them fit together into something that makes sense. Each day we rise again, repeating so many things, grumbling under our breath sometimes that this must be the umpteenth time “this has happened”, and to a degree overlooking the wisdom we express in so many of our tasks and so many of our moments. We overlook the ease and grace because it came so easily, yet how many times in a single day do we take a fragment of our knowledge and apply it to our present time life? Many times over.
Here we have it, the story today for the 13th tone and the glyph known as Cauac, the rainstorm. The many fragments of the cloud come down independent of each other, like the moments of our day, and sometimes they are absorbed so quickly that they don’t seem to have much impact, but they do. In fact, those tiny drops have their optimal effect when they are subtle. Our days are like the rainstorm, with each moment carrying only a fragment of our whole life. Most often we become absorbed by our own life, with only a few times when our wisdom and our creativity culminate into something truly amazing. Today we give honor to the little bits, the raindrops that make the rainstorm, the collection of thoughts that build a wealth of knowledge, the individual people that together make a country, and the tiny bits of light that together make the burst of light we call fireworks.
Have a happy and safe Fourth of July.
