It sounds rather eerie, hearing voices on the inside. This story is not one of psychotic events, or subtle influences in the depth of your mind. Well, actually it is about those influences. Today is 4 Cib, the Vulture in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar. Oh great, vultures – what a lovely thought.
What could vultures have to do with anything in our human living? They do perform an important task, the removal of things that no longer have life within, and they remove them quickly before it becomes a problem.
We live in a big world, with noises all around us. On the early morning I wrote this posting I heard the birds chattering outside my window. A part of me grabbed hold of that sound, knowing that soon enough the simple sound would be drown out by traffic, people, barking dogs and music. The silence has so much to offer, but we don’t often get a chance to experience it.
We have that ability to shift out of our “monkey mind”, the chatter and chaos, and be in a state of inner silence. How often do we go there, and when we do what do we find? It takes only a little consciousness to begin to see how much has collected in our “silent place”. What voice do we hear on the inside: is it the beating of our own heart, the whisper of our soul, or the clatter that takes away so much of our attention?
Today our assignment is to let go of the clatter and chaos to find that simpler, silent space. Tomorrow we resume the world, let’s do so in a way that gives us the best that our world has to offer.
